September 2005- ESOL Tutor. (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Leeds Thomas Danby College.
My current role as a fully qualified ESOL tutor charges me with a very high degree of responsibility. Working with students, refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants from countries from Iraq to Poland has ensured that I now possess excellent .people skills・ and cultural sensitivity. I am responsible for helping these students outside class hours in applying for visas and British Citizenship. I am also part of a new government initiative delivering ・ESOL in the workplace・; traveling to factories to teach migrant workers English who have lived in England for long periods of time but who have never studied English. For these classes I plan, create and produce the curriculum as well as develop and produce materials for ESOL classes across all levels. I must also manage the accounts with our business partners to ensure a strong relationship. References for this area can be found below.
Having no immediate line manager means I am responsible for all my administration, interviews with potential new students, writing reports, time keeping and student care. Delivering three hour classes at a time, to as many as twenty five students at once with excellent exam results and reviews highlights my confidence, ability and strength of character, transferable to any environment. I have considerable experience with the exam boards E.S.B and Trinity.
My strongest and proudest achievement at Leeds Thomas Danby was coordinating, designing and managing a ten week long summer school for thirty young Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers from Africa. A reference for which can be found below. |

November 2004-March2005 Learning Support Mentor, Ebor Gardens Primary School, Leeds.
My role included delivering the curriculum to students (with specific responsibility for students with leaning difficulties), in one to one, small group and full class settings. Using resources I developed myself I was responsible for planning and executing detailed lessons. I developed new systems of behavioural policy and positive reinforcement policy and through liaising with other Learning Support Tutors set up a resource base to facilitate application of these successful methods. Working with disadvantaged students has enabled me to deal with any kind of classroom behaviour and needs and furthered my ability to show patience, care and empathy. |

September 2002- October 2004 Head Foreign Language Teacher, Kids Learning School, Taiwan
Two years international teaching experience and coordination in a private school. Responsibilities included: curriculum development , classroom management, design of student centred and interactive approaches to teaching and learning, cross-curricular liaison, design of assessment tools, resources and appropriate and relevant learning programmes. Other duties involved interviewing and induction of new staff and implementing one to one meetings to prescrible individual learning programmes. I had a direct partnership role with the Director to organise and create a new library and I coordinated an overseas .English Language Summer Camp・ with classes such as computer class, swimming, film studies, cooking and English language. Working abroad for two years has taught me the importance of efficient, direct and empathetic communication. It has also taught me independence, patience, cultural sensitivity and equipped me with the skills and patterns of thought that allow me to enjoy working extremely well under any pressure and in any international environment. Being part of a management structure allows me to understand my role in the business of education. I work highly effectively with upper management, anticipating their needs and requirements for success, inside and outside the classroom. |

1998-1999 Customer Service Advisor, Telemarketing, Ventura, Leeds.
Inbound and outbound calling for a range of businesses such as American Express, 02, Barclaycard and Anna Morris dealing with advice, complaints and credit card protection. Was one of two staff members selected to relocate to new offices to plan and train forty new staff. I developed and edited new scripts and gave feedback on customer service calling skills to foster more positive customer opinion. I was instrumental in setting up an inter-department communication team from Dearne Valley to Leeds to allow smoother ordering systems and to reduce customer waiting time. Being given the opportunity to train new workers from an early age gave me the taste for teaching, responsibility and ambition to achieve. |
